It comes into view from the west, as soon as you have reached the shoulder above Bellwald after your first transition across the Fieschertal from the Fiescheralp\/Eggishorn takeoff area. If you fail to find a climb here and gradually lose your height, this is where you are likely to end up. It is easy to identify from the air, as it is where both the railway line and road disappear into a tunnel for a couple of hundred metres, just east of the train station at Niederwald.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_247\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiedLZ-from-W-375x500.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-247\" class=\"wp-image-247\" src=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiedLZ-from-W-375x500.jpg\" alt=\"Niederwald landing field viewed from above Bellwald, looking east\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiedLZ-from-W-375x500.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiedLZ-from-W-375x500-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-247\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Niederwald landing field viewed from above Bellwald, looking east<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Early in the day, you can expect to encounter a light south-westerly breeze, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/?page_id=154\">Grimseler wind<\/a> may well penetrate this far to the west in the afternoon, especially in north overpressure.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_248\" style=\"width: 753px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiederLZ-from-N-close.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-248\" class=\"size-full wp-image-248\" src=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiederLZ-from-N-close.jpg\" alt=\"Niederwald landing field, viewed from the north\" width=\"743\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiederLZ-from-N-close.jpg 743w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiederLZ-from-N-close-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/NiederLZ-from-N-close-500x326.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 743px) 100vw, 743px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-248\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Niederwald landing area, viewed from the north<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wind speeds of around 30km\/hr are not unusual in the afternoon, and although the breeze is usually laminar, the terrain around here is irregular, which can lead to some mechanical turbulence.\u00a0 The marked area has the advantage of being flat, but the banks around it could in theory create rotor, so one of the neighbouring fields may be safer if the valley breeze is strong.\u00a0 Although Niederwald is mainly used as a bomb-out option, I consider it a much safer location than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/?page_id=239\">main\u00a0Fiesch landing zone<\/a>, and a better choice if there is reason to\u00a0suspect that there could be trouble there.\u00a0 However, if there is wind at Bellwald, particularly from a sector between west and north, you may find rough conditions here due to wind shear, in which case the airflow at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/?page_id=254\">Ritzingen landing field<\/a> is likely to be smoother.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coordinates: 46\u00b026\u201913\u2033 N \u00a0 8\u00b011\u201937\u2033 E\u00a0\u00a0 1250m ASL Please note that since 2018 this has ceased to be a recognised landing field, although I have not deleted this page, as it is still acceptable to land here, provided that the &hellip;
