However, the pair of cold fronts approaching from the Atlantic rings an alarm bell, even though the chart shows them as not having even reached the French coast by the middle of the day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2940\" style=\"width: 559px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Foehn_chart_-_2018-10-12_19.07.03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2940\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2940\" src=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Foehn_chart_-_2018-10-12_19.07.03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"549\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Foehn_chart_-_2018-10-12_19.07.03.png 549w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Foehn_chart_-_2018-10-12_19.07.03-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Foehn_chart_-_2018-10-12_19.07.03-500x335.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2940\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meteocentrale Z\u00fcrich-Lugano pressure difference chart<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The north-south pressure difference chart shows borderline values for 13.10.18 \u2013 an increase from 2 to 4 hPa over the course of the flyable part of the day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2942\" style=\"width: 619px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-3000m.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2942\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2942\" src=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-3000m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"609\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-3000m.jpg 609w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-3000m-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-3000m-500x317.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 609px) 100vw, 609px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2942\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flugbasis chart of winds at 3000m at 13:00<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Flugbasis chart (sadly no longer available) predicts a very light southerly at 3000m in the Goms, albeit with some funnelling through the Grimsel pass (no <a href=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/?page_id=154\">Grimseler<\/a>!).\u00a0 The easterly in the main<span class=\"st\"> Rh\u00f4ne<\/span> valley may only be around 13km\/hr, but it\u2019s blowing the \u201cwrong\u201d way (i.e. downwards).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2941\" style=\"width: 619px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-2000m.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2941\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2941\" src=\"https:\/\/flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-2000m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"609\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-2000m.jpg 609w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-2000m-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.flyfiesch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Flugbasis-Wind-at-2000m-500x316.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 609px) 100vw, 609px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2941\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flugbasis chart of winds at 2000m at 13:00<\/p><\/div>\n<p>However, the chart for 2000m is ugly! Although the Goms looks ok, winds around 24km\/hr to the south-east of Fiesch, at Oberwald, and west of Brig have the potential to generate nasty conditions in those locations, and Andermatt could be quite malignant.<\/p>\n<p>So how did things turn out?
